Train and Bicycle Bangkok
Today we started of with a train trip to the outskirts of Eastern Bangkok. There was no problem taking our bikes on the train. The train trip was a nice start of our day. The people on the train where very curious and asked us many times where we were heading. We didn't see any other people with bicycles on the train so 2 foreigners with their bikes must have been something they do not see often.
About 30 kilometers outside the city we got out of the train and started cycling. We immediately where surrounded by water, canals and green landscapes. The locals where fishing and swimming and waved us through. The paths along the canals were in most places of excellent condition and cycling on these paths was a breeze most of the time.
Sometimes we had to make a little detour because at some places the paths on the canals just stopped being there. But with the help of our gps we had no problem at all to re-find our way. The weather was great, de drinks on the way were cool and the surroundings were magnificent. The detours we had to make brought us to very nice local unpaved roads with many babana trees along the sides.
Back with our bikes on the canals we spotted many local mosques with a particular one which was very beautiful with it's light blue colors. We stopped at the mosque and had a chat with the locals who offered us drinks and some snacks.
Deep in the green areas we sometimes needed to cross very old wooden bridges of which we sometimes had our doubts if these could hold us. But we managed to cross them all without a problem. The local people even use these riding on their motorbikes so walking our bicycles over was easy.
We cycled in total about 50 kilometers and the scenery was again magnificent. Taking our bikes out for these weekly trips in Bangkok gets addictive and we can't wait to jump on our bikes again. Another great Bangkok Cycling trip and many more to follow ...............
